Class B motorhomes camping in Road Trek

Road Trek overview

The Road Trek class B van motor home is the top selling vehicle of its kind in North America. Road Trek and class B motor homes like it have the comforts of large RVs but the driving ease and practicality of large family vans.

We got to see inside a Road Trek motor home recently on a camping trip. The motor home we saw was used and perhaps more than 10 years old.

Some of the amenities I liked: a storage shelf above the driver and passenger seat; the driver seat and passenger seat able to fold out in to beds, the configuration of the shower, and the width of the doors in back.

Deep cycle batteries are available to compensate for potential lack of hook-ups.

Road Trek costs and craftsmanship

The people we met with the used Road Trek paid $ 8,000. Used Road Treks may cost from $ 8,500 for models in the late 80s to $ 14,000 for models in the mid-90s depending on mileage and overall condition.

There are 8 Road Trek models. The 2010 Road Trek SS-Agile gets up to 23 miles per gallon. While most utilize a Chevrolet chassis and engine, the RS-Adventurous uses Mercedes-Benz engineering. The Web site reads “German Automotive Excellence Meets North American RV Ingenuity.”

The Adventurous seats up to six people and sleeps up to four people using front single beds and rear twin or king size beds.

The aisle is up to 30 inches wide, allowing two people to pass each other easily. Road Trek has lowered the floor without raising the ceiling or outside roof. This keeps the vehicle as fuel-efficient as possible.

I noticed that the wide back doors make loading and unloading much easier and more efficient when compared to our 20-foot Dolphin motor home on a Toyota truck bed. Our Dolphin has a narrow side door making it difficult to load large objects and it is almost impractical for hauling around town.

The Road Trek can easily be used as a long distance RV for camping in campgrounds or in places where there are no amenities. It can also be used as a family van for errands around town or hauling items from the hardware store or lumber yard.

Road Trek offers another use for its vehicle – a spare room for family and friends who visit or a mobile office for salespeople on the go locally or regionally.

Some of the specifications are:

Awnings that range from over 9 feet to more than 11 feet

Showers that are “stand up” in the aisle in some models

55 gallon fresh water tank

85 gallon grey water tank

30 gallon black water tank

An excellent camping unit for short camping trips or cross country travel, Don! The price seems reasonable too! Good review!

Thanks suny51 and Randy . . . yes I'm going to do a brief write-up on my Dolphin motorhome as well. I'm definitely interested for the future in both the Road Trek and Pleasure Way. They do have a large degree of practicality.
