My progress making money using Google Adsense on Hubpages

My Google Adsense progress

I’m sharing my progress in making money using Google Adsense here on Hubpages for the following reasons:

  1. To help me benchmark my own progress
  2. Offer useful information to the Hubpages community
  3. To create a discussion from those of you who are earning more
  4. To provide real-life guide posts and benchmarks to those of you who are earning less

May was a month of firsts for me:

  • The first time I wrote more than 9 Hubs in a month . . . I wrote 15 Hubs.
  • The first time my Google Adsense earnings went higher than $ 20 in a month. I reached $28 and change.
  • The first time I wrote a Hub that earned more than $ 5.00 in a month from Adsense and another Hub that earned over $ 4.00 in a month.
  • I gained over 220 followers in May as well . . . for the first time.
  • I also started earning Adsense money for the first time from my Hub sensual massage oils and lotions. I never expected it to be an Adsense earner – only an earner on Amazon and it hasn’t yet made any sales.

May was also the first time I went on Redgage to upload content. In addition, I created a personal site in Wordpress and uploaded some articles there as well.

So I can say May is the first month where I’ve done any deliberate backlinking for my Hubs.

It's fun to see the number pop up! It's no fun to see it blank. Keep writing quality Hubs and the number will increase.

June progress with Adsense

I’m making new firsts during June so far.

On June 13, I had 6 clicks and earned $ 1.93 and by the morning of June 14, there were an additional 4 clicks that earned $ 1.72.

While the amount of money is small, nevertheless it shows the steady increase I’m experiencing. Also, what’s more exciting is that this is the first time I’ve ever come close to having 10 clicks on Adsense ads in two consecutive days.

That shows me the volume is increasing. I believe I know why: my output is increasing; it’s more consistent; and I’ve done a bit more promotion and my Hubs from the past few months are picking up more searches from Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

I’ve written 6 Hubs so far in June and my goal is to write 24 Hubs between June 15 and June 30 to finally, finally write 30 Hubs in 30 days. . . btw, I wrote 4 Hubs in April and 9 Hubs in March. So at least now I’m exceeding my most recent output.

I’m writing Hubs with the idea of not writing just one Hub on one topic . . . but at least 3 Hubs on one topic. For example, my Hubs on the Pleasure-Way motor home and the Road Trek will be accompanied by one or two more Hubs on my Dolphin Motor Home and buying used motor homes.

Here’s an overview of my progress:

It took me about 21 months to reach my first 25, 000 page views. I did little to no promotion.

I expect to reach my next 25,000 page views in the next five months or less based on consistent promotion and the linking of Hubs on a similar topic.

It took me two years to make $104.37. I had several months where I did not write.

It took me ten months to earn $ 111. 99. I had two months when I did not write.

I’m hoping to take four months (April 2010 to July 2010) to earn my next $100 and begin earning more than that each month after.

I’m also understanding my niche more clearly. Small business is the focus of many of my Hubs and it’s a large topic. I’m writing more product Hubs which are beginning to earn on Adsense, too, even if they don’t sell on Amazon.

So you might be able to go out and collect aluminum cans to recycle and earn more than me. However, I’m writing my Hubs for the long term and I believe my earnings will begin to increase much more rapidly now.

There’s no secret. Here’s a rough formula to make money with Adsense on Hubpages:

  1. Write several Hubs around one topic
  2. Link the Hubs together
  3. Participate in the forums and comment with other Hubbers
  4. Backlink the Hubs to sites like Redgage
  5. Improve your niche choices and write about products people need, use, or want. And attempt to write 30 Hubs in 30 Days. Even if you don’t succeed, the momentum is necessary to develop the Adsense earnings.

How long did it take to make your first $100 with Adsense

  • One year
  • Two years
  • More than two years

It's a slow process but worth the ride, I think. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, suziecat7 . . . you've got to be in it for the long haul. My early written Hubs were fairly well-written, but they were too general. Especially the ones on marketing. So now I can break those in to more specific targets - marketing for consultants, etc.

Keep on hubbing!

Yeah, thanks eovery. Readers are looking for how-to information online so that makes sense . . . or cents . . . or even dollars.

Good information from you, Don. I found a person with a great attitude to reach the goal, that's you. I also wait my second check from Adsense and most of this earning from hubpages. "Slowly but sure" I think it good to represent this topic. I believe we can do the best and never give up is the good key to be success with Google Adsense.

Good work, Don. I hope the best for you. I rate this Up.

how to become a increase my rank in hub pages.

your hub is so nice.

Don Simkovich profile image

Don Simkovich Hub Author 23 months ago

Thanks, Prasetio and md_azamkhan, my expectations are now changing. Instead of hoping I would make $12 to $15 in a month, I'm now expecting to make $30 monthly and in the next two months, I'm expecting to make well over $100 monthly. Consistent writing on articles that help people is the first step.

Nice planning I wish you will make more than $100 in the (April 2010 to July 2010) time frame. If you are able to achieve 25000 Page Views that's awesome and write more hubs with a lot of content.

Samantha, glad you signed up and you're showing on my url trackers! Let me know if you have questions. Also, Siju George, I appreciate your encouragement. I've learned from both new and veteran writers on hubpages.

It really can be a slow process. I haven't written many Hubpages, but I'm working on more this summer. I make much more money on Helium and through blogging on Blogger, and still trying to figure out how to optimize earnings through the various sites. Good luck!

Great to know you're doing well with Helium.

I voted this article useful. It's good to know that taking two years to earn the minimum Google cash out of $100.00 isn't totally off the norm. I earn a sizable part time income writing. I'm under contacts that provide for upfront payment for all of the material that I have to turn in by deadlines. This is great because it's steady and real income. I plan to hold on to these valuable contracts, but I am looking forward to earning with adsense because it gives more freedom to write on what you want, when and how you want.

Don Simkovich profile image

Don Simkovich Hub Author 22 months ago

Thanks, Ana, for your comment. Yes, I know expect to start making $100 monthly with Adsense. There is freedom to write what you want and how you want with Adsense . . . but the ads are contextual and they revolve around the topic. So try to find specific topics.

Thanks, Ann, I appreciate it. My success has certainly been incremental. I am seeing something else: leveraging Hubs and turning the most useful ones in to eBooks. I wonder if others have done that.

this is a good hub, I read it with interest because it is useful to compare other people's experiences on HubPages and with Adsense. I have found the thirty hubs in thirty days challege a useful and worthwhile exercise. It does seem to increase the flow of traffic to the hubs that you write for it and this helps the older hubs too. I think it also helps because you are allowed to post a link to each hub in the Thirty Hubs in Thirty days links area. Thank you.

can you provide an update in the comments section detailing how you are doing now?

Don Simkovich profile image

Don Simkovich Hub Author 18 months ago

Yes, clearblue99. My earnings are consistent right now. I haven't written an article in several weeks. I made $ 5.99 the other day without having written anything new since I've been busy with other projects. I'll start writing new Hubs and I expect my earnings to go up and I'll start earning monthly checks.

Don Simkovich profile image

Don Simkovich Hub Author 17 months ago

I made $123 from Google on my last check -- representing two months' earnings and I haven't written a new Hub since October and I only wrote 3 Hubs then. Nice to see a little "passive" income. I want to get back to writing though since my earnings are steady and I want them to pick up, giving me a chance to slack off another time.

Don, how do you determine how many clicks a particular add is getting? I know that if I go to accounts I can get the number of clicks any hub is getting in a day, but you seem to be getting something a bit more specific.

Don Simkovich profile image

Don Simkovich Hub Author 3 months ago

You would go to your Google Adsense account ... google.com/adsense. Enter the url of the hubpage and you'll see how much the particular hub is getting. Have you used Google Adsense outside of hubpages? Otherwise, I don't think it's that critical. I would think the high traffic hubs via search engines are the ones primarily getting clicks.

I think to know which ads are getting the most clicks -- on other sites -- becomes important if you're selling advertising on those sites or you're really tracking for niche marketing purposes.
