Used romance novels

Romance Novels

Buy a romance novel at a used bookstore – this is for men to give their wives. I gave my wife a Debbie Macomber novel titled Morning Comes Softly. It gave us a way to discuss our approaches to each other in our own relationship so it had an extra added benefit. The romance novel doesn’t need to be racy or sexually explicit to be a way of talking about sexuality with each other. The cost was less than $ 5.00 and it was in good shape.

Chocolate / Candy

What type of chocolate does she like? My wife is a fan of English toffee. Trader Joe’s will sell English toffee for around $ 4.00 per container.

Silky beneath-wear

Sears, Target and even Wal-Mart will sell silky lingerie and panties at affordable prices. Women can also shop for their man at these places, too.

Buy a candle

Scented candles

Rite Aid, CVS, or a local boutique will have nice prices on candles of different shapes and sizes. Expect to pay around $ 9 to $ 12 for mid-size candles. Yankee Candles at the mall have more of a premium price to them. Buy a few tea candles in different scents.

Massage lotion

Target sells a warming oil for around $ 5.00 for a small tube. Otherwise, my favorite lotion is available at Bath and Body Works. Cost will run around $ 13 to $ 16 but it lasts for 12 to 15 months. Click to read this Hub on massage lotions and different brands.

Write love letters

Write a love letter

Buy colored stationery and write a love letter or a few love letters. Tie it to a red rose from the grocery store or florist which may cost $ 3.99 to $ 4.99 for a single rose.

Jar of honey and love note

Buy a jar of honey from the grocery store and a blank card with a picture of a flower on the outside. Write a note to her and tell her how you’d like to use the honey and say something like “I just want to see who tastes sweeter.”

Honey, syrup . . . you get the idea. Sweet and sticky is good!

Lollipop bouquet

Share it with the kids and then take the bouquet to bed later. Have a lollipop licking contest. Hey, you can have a lot of fun for around $ 3 to $ 5.

Tasty wines

Trader Joe’s or a similar store in your area, may sell unique wine for $ 4.99 to $ 7.99 per bottle. Pick up some toffee or other chocolate treat and a blank card to let your imagination soar.

This has some very good ideas. Your wife is lucky to have you thinking of her. So many wait until the last minute and then run to the grocery for whatever is left.

One of the best Valentine's gifts I ever got was when my husband baked a heart shaped cake for me and decorated it. How many husband's bake for their wives while their wives are at work? Then, when I got home, my favorite dinner was waiting. Expensive, no! Thoughtful and considered, YES!!!

I'm sure you were surprised, Becky. That is a good idea. A lot of men can get lost in the kitchen so it's brave of him to bake the cake as a Valentine's gift.

That was our first Valentine's after we got married. I have discovered since then that he can follow a cake mix recipe and has a small list of meals that he can cook. All men should be able to do that and I have taught my son's to cook. They have quite a list of things they can cook well.

Becky, you're right that men should learn some basic kitchen cooking techniques--even if they're the primary breadwinners (pun sorta intended). I proposed to my wife over a chicken dinner I cooked!
